Miss Mortimer contract contralto makes her debut
Miss Myra Mortimer and American contralto of Butte Montana who has been well
received on the continent recently and of whom a Dutch critic wrote 'like Julia
Cope in her prime' gave her first recital here last evening at
Townhall with Conrad Bowes as the at the piano Miss Mortimers specializes in
the art of *lieder singing and her program was confined to lyrics by Franz Schubert, Robert Schumann, and Hugo Wolf
The songs were most familiar Miss Mortimer saying many
lovely songs among which were harbingers of spring were suggested by such titles as
Schubert's xxx Shuman's xxx and Wolf'sxxx

Mortimer was heard by a large audience and much warm approval was given to her
performance she has been announced as her dramatic contralto but her delivery did
not support this description of her voice and style her voice lacking proper
placement is rather an mezzo-soprano or of a mid range her lower tones lack volume and her upper to something some of her Llegado work was admirably performed in respect of tone and phrase.
Her exposition of text showed general
taste and refinement it was without noteworthy dramatic flowers..... she lost
frequently her some of .... hercommanding presents and her platform bearing
as a recital artist was beyond reproach. Mr. Bos who was not who has not
appeared here before the season did his ...excellent work as an
accompanist
